University of Liverpool Announces Plan for AI-Driven Materials Discovery Centre

The Cleaner Futures project is tightly aligned with the University of Liverpool’s strategic investment in the £100 million AIMHI (AI Materials Hub for Innovation) and the forthcoming £111 million Chemical Sciences Building in Liverpool’s Knowledge Quarter. AIMHI will establish the UK’s flagship centre for AIdriven materials discovery, accelerating breakthroughs in catalysis, netzero materials, soft matter, and product formulation. Designed as a national centre of excellence, AIMHI will unite worldclass researchers, industry partners, and advanced robotics to close the gap between laboratory discovery and commercial deployment, supporting up to 900 highvalue jobs and generating more than £400 million in economic value. By transforming R&D productivity and creating open innovation platforms, skills programmes, and incubators, AIMHI will strengthen the UK’s innovation ecosystem and directly advance the transition to cleaner, more sustainable manufacturing. AIMHI’s mission to close the translational gap between academic AI research and industrial deployment directly complements the project’s goals.
