At the RSC Sustainable Polymers for Liquid Formulations (PLFs) Summit held in London on October 2, 2024, Prof. Charlotte Williams spoke about the pressing challenges of redesigning plastics systems for sustainability. She showcased how her research team is tackling this global issue through innovative case studies, emphasizing the importance of rethinking the lifecycle of polymers. Her presentation highlighted the work being done in the Cleaner Futures Prosperity Partnership, where her team are working through the lifecycle of polymers for formulations and integrating digital technologies to accelerate identification of lead molecules.
Dr. Chris Finnegan from Unilever SEAC also spoke at the event, which brought together a diverse group of key stakeholders and senior leaders. The summit provided a platform to review progress made since the previous year’s launch of The PLFs Revolution: Our roadmap for sustainable polymers in liquid formulations. Discussions centered around two core missions for the future of PLFs: developing and scaling biodegradable PLFs by 2030 and advancing circular economy infrastructure for PLFs within the same timeframe.
